What Is HVO Fuel?
HVO, also known as Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil, is meticulously produced through the hydrotreatment process of vegetable oils, ensuring a consistent product free from esters or contamination.
As a member of the paraffinic family of fuels, HVO is a remarkably stable, renewable, sustainable, and superior-quality direct diesel substitute. Its exceptional characteristics make it an ideal choice for a diverse array of applications, including powering vehicles, generators, and industrial power systems.

Benefits Of HVO Fuel
HVO fuel offers up to a 90% reduction in net CO2 emissions, providing an immediate reduction in net greenhouse gas emissions.
It is renewable, sustainable, and 100% biodegradable, being made from certified waste. Our HVO is ISCC and RFAS approved, ensuring both sustainability and product integrity.
It reduces notifiable particulate matter (PM) and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions in exhaust systems with no after-treatment (abatement), leading to improved air quality.
HVO is a drop-in replacement for regular diesel and gas oil. It meets the EN15940 standard for paraffinic fuels, ASTM D975, and the Fuel Quality Directive 2009/30/EC Annex II. It has a wide range of OEM approvals, meaning it can often be used without needing engine and machinery modification.
It offers excellent cold-weather performance, with a higher cetane number (up to 90) and a low cloud point, providing better starting performance, clean combustion, and less chance of waxing in extreme temperatures.
HVO has a high flashpoint, leading to improved safety, storage, and handling compared to regular diesel.
There is a reduced need for regular testing, as impurities are removed during the production process, eliminating the key factors for fuel degradation and increasing shelf life to around 10 years.
Switching to our HVO fuel has a low upfront cost, making it the most cost-effective solution compared to EV/hydrogen, as no infrastructure changes are needed.
Sustainably Sourced HVO from RFAS-Registered Suppliers
Our HVO fuel is sourced exclusively from suppliers registered with the Renewable Fuels Assurance Scheme (RFAS). This ensures that every litre of HVO we supply meets rigorous standards for greenhouse gas emissions, sustainable feedstock sourcing, and transparent, fully traceable supply chains.
We are committed to providing a reliable, uninterrupted supply of high-quality HVO across the UK, while maintaining complete traceability of the feedstocks used and ensuring our sustainability claims are fully supported.
Our HVO is also certified under the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) scheme. Every shipment is ISCC verified upon import and backed by a fully validated, independently auditable supply chain.
By partnering with RFAS-registered suppliers, we are able to provide eligible customers with a quarterly Renewable Fuels Declaration in arrears, giving you confidence in the provenance and sustainability credentials of the fuel you purchase.

What’s The Difference Between HVO And Other Diesel Fuels?
HVO is different to other diesel fuels. Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil is an eco-friendly alternative to other traditional types of diesel. HVO fuels have been reported to reduce carbon monoxide and dioxide straight from the initial usage.
Some experts have highlighted that the HVO process gives it an advantage over other biofuels, as it is not subject to the 7% blend rule when blended for diesel which more conventional biofuels are subject to. Thanks to its hydro-processing treatment, it’s also potentially more stable than unmodified oil.
Who Can Use HVO?
Our HVO is almost identical to traditional fossil fuel diesel. It can be used as a fossil fuel alternative without upgrading your company’s infrastructure or cleaning out existing stock. The transition from fossil fuels – like red diesel – to our HVO is seamless; simply order, top-up and go!
HVO is most commonly used in:
Rail, haulage, and transport
Industrial trucks and tankers
Construction equipment and machinery
Agricultural tractors & machinery
Boats & vessels operating within inland waterways
Commercial boilers
Portable generator at events & festivals
What Can HVO Be Made From?
HVO is produced from waste streams, plant and animal matter. Plants are grown and oils are taken away and used for their main purpose, recollected and then converted into HVO. When HVO is burnt, any CO2 that is released is then sequestered back into a plant on the next regrowth cycle. This closed loop ensures there is no net CO2 increase.
HVO fuel can be made from several feedstocks which include:
- Animal fats (rendered fat from the meat industry)
- Vegetable oils (soybean oil and rapeseed oil)
- Waste oils (used cooking oils)
